Natalia Martinez

The goal of this seemingly disparate collection is to drive at a psychological and anthropological focus on personhood by both drawing attention to the individual and acutely highlighting his absence - at times humorous, perplexing, or saddening - in various contexts.

Some of the photos are set against the backdrop of South Africa, a society that has at times overlooked the individual man in the country’s search for identity. The rest document the quotidian in Italy, France, Israel, Russia, Cuba, China, Poland, and parts of the United States. In all cases, some individual story is unraveled either in representation or in absence.
